Great Quote on the Status of the US

In "The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic", Alexander Fraser Tyler writes:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship."

This sounds like where we are today. All we hear are the candidates promising this and that from the work of others out of the public treasury. We need to turn this around, or we too will fail. We are seeing the cracks in the walls now.
